This was the session of all sessions! If you have lived or grew up in North Carolina, you know how unpredictable the rain can be in the spring. But that didn’t slow Dylan and Mackenzie down for their engagement session this past April. The forecast was calling for 90% chance of rain on our session date, not what any photographer wants to hear when photographing at an all-outdoors location. We packed our bags and headed for the mountains anyways.
Well, the rain came, and it didn’t look like it was leaving any time soon. Oh, and did I mention this was one of those spring rains where the temperature also drops to the 50’s? Perfect combo for spring photos right!?
Regardless of the rain, these two were determined to have photos that day so, we put on our rain gear (camera included) and trekked out into the woods for a few photos in between the rain showers. Talk about having a plan and working fast! We captured a large number of photos in about 10 minutes before the rain started coming down harder! This is when as a photographer, your training must kick in a you have to work fast while still creating timeless images that the client will love. There’s no time to play around and “hope” you got the shot. You either have the shot or you don’t, and I got the shot.
We were lucky enough to be able to stay the night in the mountains and try again the next day (that wasn’t calling for rain). Sunday was perfect! There was fog on the mountains, the mountain steam was flowing with water and everything was just perfect! It was still cold outside, which made the water in the stream even colder but, that didn’t stop Dylan and Mackenzie from braving the cold for a few photos.
I adore working with couples like Dylan and Mackenzie who trust my vision and truly are up for any kind of adventure. And what a story they will have about their engagement photos. I can’t wait till next year when I will have the pleasure to photograph their spring wedding!
